Further notice of by-elections - Heretaunga General Ward and Takitimu Māori Ward

The nomination period to fill the extraordinary vacancies for the Heretaunga General Ward and Takitimu Māori Ward has now closed. Nominations have been received from:

As there have been more nominations received than there are vacancies for both wards, voting processes will be required to determine the successful candidates and will be conducted by postal voting using the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system. Voting will open on Thursday 2 May and close at 12 noon on Friday 24 May 2024. Candidate names will be listed in random order on the voting papers.

Enrolment and Special Voting Arrangements

Residential electors within the Heretaunga General Ward and Takitimu Māori Ward areas who are not listed on the final electoral roll for these by-elections can enrol or amend their enrolment details on the electoral roll on or before 5pm Thursday 1 May 2024:

  • Online at www.vote.nz
  • By texting your name and address to 3676 to get a form sent to you
  • By calling 0800 36 76 56 to ask for a form to be sent to you
  • By email request to enquiries@elections.govt.nz

Heretaunga General Ward and Takitimu Māori Ward ratepayers who live outside those areas and who are not listed on the final electoral roll for these by-elections can enrol on or before 5pm Thursday 1 May 2024 by completing and returning a ratepayer enrolment form, available from the Hastings District Council office or website.

Special voting facilities for the by-elections will be available from the Customer Service Centre, Ground Floor, Hastings District Council Building, 207 Lyndon Road East, Hastings during normal office hours from Thursday 2 May until Thursday 23 May 2024 and between 8am and 12 noon on Friday 24 May 2024.
