Landfill account holders

This page has been created as a central place for landfill documents and disposal information for landfill users/those who wish to become landfill users.

There is a lot of paperwork and forms to complete in the process of creating an account, and lots of information for those disposing various items/substances.

If you have any questions about this page or its contents, please email omarunui.disposal@hdc.govt.nz

New account holders

New account holders are required to have read and signed the site induction before coming to the landfill.

View the site induction here.

If you do not have an account but would like one, please apply here.

Specialist waste disposal

It’s important to know that if you want to dispose of hazardous waste such as asbestos, you need to have pre-approval. This means you can’t just turn up at the landfill with an item and expect it to be accepted. Even when you have approval, we still need you to give us a heads up it’s coming (24 hours in advance).

What do I need pre-approval to dispose of?

You need pre-approval to dispose of the following:

  • Semi liquid waste
  • Certain contaminated and hazardous wastes
  • Putrescible waste
  • Vehicle parts
  • Skins/pelts or similar waste
  • Chromium contaminated waste
  • Hydrogen sulphide contaminated waste
  • Asbestos
  • Fire damaged material(s)

How do I get pre-approval?

Once you have an account you need to start using a hazardous waste manifest each time you are ready to bring hazardous waste to site.

  1. Download our hazardous waste manifest.
  2. Complete the form (making sure it’s signed by the account holder) and send back to omarunui.disposal@hdc.govt.nz
  3. Wait for an approval/rejection email with details.
  4. Bring your load to landfill.
  5. Await assessment by landfill staff. They will sign the form if it meets the requested requirements.
  6. Load is accepted/not accepted. Staff have the right to reject loads that are deemed unsafe/uncompliant, i.e., asbestos that is not sealed correctly.
  7. Forms are completed and both account holder and landfill receive a copy.
