About 75 per cent of the new State Highway 2 roundabout is almost completed with traffic expected to be moved onto it towards the end of next week. That will allow the contractors to complete the last quarter.
In the meantime lighting has been rigged up over the temporary roundabout outside Mangateretere School.
At the site of the new bridge over the Karamu Stream the preparatory work has been completed and the bridge builders are on site driving the piles before they are reinforced. That pile work is expected to continue for about the next six weeks.
Across the length of the new road, top soil is being removed after which appropriate fill will be put in place.
The biggest issue has been the wet weather. The team has managed to start bringing the project back up to time, with a bit over two weeks still to make up.
Walkers who use the track between the Whakatu industrial area and Pakowhai Rd will have noticed a change to the path, to allow for continued work near the stream.
