Beach access from Clifton to Cape Kidnappers will remain closed until risk management measures are put in place.
This week the Hastings District Council resolved to re-open the Clifton beach access to Cape Kidnappers, and also approved a detailed risk analysis to take place over the next six months.
The council will have a firmer idea of the timing of the re-opening late next week, and council staff are working on this with urgency.
Hastings mayor Sandra Hazlehurst said that while the council would like to re-open the road as soon as possible, public safety had to be the key priority.
“The road will stay closed while the process is worked through, and while risk mitigation measures as requested by council are put in place to try and keep our community safe.”
