Go By Bike Breakfast returns to Hastings CBD

One of the features of National Bike Wise month, the Go By Bike Breakfast is set to return to Hastings CBD.

The Hastings District Council organised event offers cyclists the chance to have breakfast on their daily commute to school or work.

Deputy Mayor Cynthia Bowers says “Whether you ride to work or school every day or this is just a one off, we want to see you in the Central Mall on Wednesday 11th February from 7am. You will be offered breakfast and there will be a chance to chat and find out more about cycling initiatives around Hawke’s Bay.”

Cynthia Bowers says “The Go By Bike Breakfast is for anyone who can ride a bike and it is great to see a number of Hastings schools encouraging their students to take part in a ride to the CBD before beginning their school day.”

“School children have such a great time at the event and we would really like to see more schools encouraging their pupils to take part. It’s a great way to get them on their bikes, the students are back at school in time to start the day and they enjoy a scrumptious breakfast,” Cynthia Bowers says.

Hastings District Councillor Henare O’Keefe will again lead the ride for school children from Flaxmere. He says “Everyone is welcome to join in the ride which will leave the splash pad at Flaxmere Park at 7am. The aim is to top the almost 100 cyclists who joined the ride last year. The kids have an amazing time as we ride into the CBD escorted by Hastings Police.”

Spot prizes will be given away during the morning and there will be a range of entertainment at the event.

Everyone is welcome to ride to the Go By Bike breakfast on Wednesday 11th February in Hastings Central Mall between 7am and 8.30am.

This is just one of the three events organised by Hastings District Council as part of Bike Wise Month. The Hawke’s Bay Commuter Challenge takes place from Monday 9 February to Friday 13 February. Each morning between 7am and 8.30am bike past participating businesses and breakfast will be on them. To find out more about the Hawke’s Bay Commuter Challenge visit hawkesbaycommuterchallenge.nz
