Waste Minimisation Education

Landfill and Transfer Station Tours

Have you ever wondered what happens to your rubbish after you leave the bag at your kerbside? You can find out by taking a tour of the Henderson Road Transfer Station or the Omarunui Landfill. Register your interest in taking a public tour by emailing council@hdc.govt.nz or calling us on 871 5000.

School tours

We frequently take school tours through the Landfill, and the feedback is always excellent. You provide the transport, teachers and pupils, and we'll supply high-visibility safety vests and an interesting morning or afternoon.

If you are a teacher and would like to bring your class for a tour, you should review the checklist and risk management sheets below and then contact the Waste Minimisation Team on phone  (06) 871 5000 or email council@hdc.govt.nz
