Hastings has been recognised as New Zealand’s first “Motorhome Friendly Town” at the Motorhome Association National Annual Rally, held at the A&P Showgrounds over Easter.

Almost 900 motorhomes rolled up for the four-day event and at an awards ceremony on Easter Monday Hastings became the first city in New Zealand to be bestowed with the title.

An energy audit of four Hastings District Council-owned visitor sites found the council could cut $22,241 off its annual energy bill and reduce carbon emissions by 2.5 tonnes each year by implementing some simple energy savings initiatives.

The cost savings were identified in an energy audit of Splash Planet, Hastings Top Ten Holiday Park, the city’s Art Gallery and the Hawke’s Bay Opera House.

Public Consultation on the Heretaunga Plains Urban Development Strategy (HPUDS) begins today and the councils collaborating on the project are keen to get as much input from the community as possible.

Napier City, Hastings District and Hawke’s Bay Regional councils, which are jointly developing the strategy, put three options for the shape of future urban development around Napier and Hastings were to stakeholders earlier this year.

Hastings District Council’s Administration Building in Lyndon Road East will be closed to the public on Tuesday 6 April while asbestos is removed from the ceiling on part of the ground floor. Signs will advise visitors of the closure.

The work affects only one floor of the building so most council functions and services will continue, but there will be no public access to the building. In-person visits should be rescheduled to another day.

The Hastings District Council: Tangata Whenua Joint Waste Water Committee has recommended Council proceed with an application to give it more time to sign off its part of the consent for the East Clive Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Odour issues caused by unforeseen problems with the waste stream have seen the new Bio-trickling Filter Plant unable to run continuously since January.

Hastings District Council is preparing an Aquatic Facilities Strategy to plan for the future provision of public swimming pools in the District. Council is looking for your feedback through a questionnaire and series of public workshops.

The questionnaires can be filled out on-line or by picking up a hard copy from any of the public swimming pools, Council’s libraries and the main Council building (207 Lyndon Road East, Hastings).
