Submissions close on the proposed Hastings District Plan on Friday 14th February.

The plan sets out the strategic direction for the district and outlines the rules that manage land use and subdivision. These rules ensure that the effects of activities on neighbours and the environment are considered and they can also have an effect on what you do on your property.

The Go by Bike Breakfast is back for 2014.

The Hastings District Council organised event is part of the national Bike Wise Month and offers cyclists the chance to have breakfast in the CBD before heading off to work or school.

The Go by Bike breakfast will also incorporate the Healthy Lifestyles bike ride from Flaxmere to the Hastings CBD. Councillor Henare O’Keefe says everyone is welcome to join in the ride which will leave the splash pad at Flaxmere Park at 7am on Wednesday 12th February.

The event that changed the face of Hawke’s Bay forever will be remembered in Hastings next Monday (3rd February).

The commemoration service for the 83rd anniversary of the Hawke’s Bay earthquake will begin in the Central Mall in Heretaunga Street, Hastings at 10.30am next Monday. The bell in the clock tower will ring out at 10.46am, the time that the quake struck.

Pipers from the Hastings City Pipe Band will walk from each end of the CBD and then lead the dignitaries onto the stage. Councillor Watkins will lead the commemoration service which will include Kaumatua, Jerry Hapuku and Mayor Lawrence Yule

Hastings residents are being encouraged to consider placing a nomination for the 2014 Civic Honours Awards.

The awards recognise an individual, group or voluntary organisation which has contributed significantly to the Hastings community. Nominations can be placed in one of six categories; arts and culture, health and welfare, sport and recreation, education and youth, new volunteer and youth volunteer.

Nominations close on Friday 14th February 2014 and forms are available at the Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere libraries or from Council’s Service Centre in Lyndon Road. Nomination forms can also be downloaded from www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/community-awards

Friends of the Hastings District Libraries are holding a big, two day book sale at the Havelock North Function Centre on Friday 7 February from 9am to 5pm & Saturday 8 February from 10am to 4pm.
