Dog Fines

How to pay your fine

  • Pay online by credit card
  • At Council's main Administration Building on Lyndon Street East, Hastings. The office is open from 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Only the full amount can be paid, with the option of EFTPOS or cash. There are no instalment options.
  • By post. Send the fine amount, along with your infringement, to:

Customer Services Team
Hastings District Council
Private Bag 9002
Hastings 4156

If your fine is not paid within 28 days of the ticket being issued, you will receive a reminder notice in the post.

If the fine is not paid within 28 days of the reminder being issued, it will be lodged with the courts. The fine, plus an administration cost, will then need to be paid to the Court (not to Council).

Infringement explanations

An explanation can be written to Council when owners believe they should not have to pay the fine. The Infringement number and dog identification number must be quoted on the Infringement explanation Form. A name and address must also be provided.

Mail it to:

Animal Management
Hastings District Council
Private Bag 9002

Council will take into consideration such things as the requirements of the law, and general consistency of decisions when deciding whether to cancel the infringement notice or not.
