Personal statement:

Geraldine Travers has lived in Hawkes Bay twice, initially when she was Assistant Principal at Havelock North High School and for the last 19 years as Principal of Hastings Girls' High School. Geraldine has had considerable recognition in her role: she was awarded the prestigious Woolf Fisher Travelling Fellowship, won the National Excellence in Leadership award at both regional and national level, while in 2007 North And South magazine called Hastings Girls' New Zealand's best state secondary school. Geraldine has represented Hawkes Bay Principals on numerous national committees and working parties and has been a member of the EIT Council since 2010

Geraldine is a regular worshipper at St Matthew's and she and her husband Keith share an interest in social justice. She was awarded a MNZM for services to education in 2015 and is also a Justice of the Peace. Zonta recently presented Geraldine with a 'Women of Significance' award.
